Krasnoyarsk is the largest industrial and cultural center of Eastern Siberia, the capital of Krasnoyarsk Kray and ranks second in Russia by area.
Today Krasnoyarsk is a modern industrial city with a unique architecture, the capital of craftsmen, talented Siberian people, one of the most beautiful cities of the country. According to the results of the all-Russian census of 2002, there are 912 thousand citizens in Krasnoyarsk.
Over 17 thousand companies, organisations and agencies as well as 124 industrial enterprises. Krasnoyarsk occupies the leading position in Siberia by industrial output per capita. Along with such traditional production sectors of the Kray as metallurgy, power industry and mechanical engineering, new production sectors are developing more and more aggressively. Generation of ideas, development of technologies, projects allow the city to maintain its leading positions and develop its investment appeal.
Since the mid-1960s the city has been a large road junction. Three main traffic arteries intersect in the city: trans-Siberian railroad, federal highway and the Yenisei River.
