Volga Federal District
Forestry industry of the Volga Federal District is rapidly developing and is an important part of District’s economy. 23% of the all-Russian sawn timber volume is produced here; the District makes a great contribution to logging and pulp and paper sectors. Timber logging has an important role in Perm, Kirovsk and Nizhny Novgorod Oblasts. Lumber factories are located close to logging districts of Perm, Kirov, Yushkar-Ola, Novovyatsk, Berezniki, Solikamsk as well as other cities. One of the main plywood production enterprises of the country, Perm Plywood Plant, is located in the Perm Oblast, in the Ural Village. Pulp and paper centers: Perm, Balakhna, Volzhsk, Pravdinsk, Solikamsk, Krasnokamsk, Krasnovirshevsk.
Ural Federal District
Rich forest resources form the forestry complex of the Ural Federal District. Important centers of forestry, woodworking (Serov, Severouralsk, Verkhoturye) and pulp and paper industry (Novaya Lyalya) are located in the Sverdlov Oblast. Sawn timber, chipboards, plywood, pre-fabricated wooden houses, heat insulating, finishing and other materials, timber products and furniture are manufactured in the District. Woodworking centers are located in Tyumen, Salekhard, Tobolsk, Surgut, Nizhnevartovsk. Transport plays an important role in successful operation of the Ural Federal District. Rail transport of both intraregional and transit importance prevails in the Region. The main Trans-Siberian Railway is located on the territory of the District.
