Forestry complex of the Far East Federal District

Considerable potential of forest resources, unique geographic location as well as closeness to the most rapidly developing forestry product market of the Asia-Pacific Region open great perspectives for development of the forestry complex of the Far East. The Far East has abundant forest resources. The account for 43% of the total area of forests and 33% of Russian timber resources. Total land of the forest fund makes 558,5 min ha (92% of the total area of the territory). Timber resources of the Far Eastern forests are estimated at 24,7 billion cubic meters. The logging volume in the Far Eastern Federal District today amounts to 90 million of cubic meters. The fact that the share of logging on rented timber lands makes 62,5% against 42% in Russia as a whole, is an obvious advantage of the region. At that the Far Eastern Federal District accounts for just 2% of the production capacities of Russia in the domain of woodworking. Among the key objectives set by the Government of the Russian Federation there is creation in the Far Eastern Federal District of favorable conditions for civilized forest use, construction of deep woodworking plants for production of paper, wooden boards, furniture, bonded structures etc.
